2020 Young Engineer of the Year

Since joining McLaren Engineering Group as a junior engineer in 2012, Stephanie has quickly risen as a young leader within the firm and a dynamic member of the AEC community in Maryland. Her contributions are characterized by providing excellent project management, developing meaningful relationships with clients and colleagues, and mentoring junior staff. Embodying the values of “Applied Ingenuity,” she is an articulate, ambitious leader, skilled in meeting new challenges and solving problems.

 

As an engineer and project manager, Stephanie has embraced a diversity of project types across multiple disciplines and markets. Her expertise has grown to include adaptive re-use renovations, mixed-use developments, historic preservation, façade restoration, facility upgrades, feasibility studies, and themed entertainment projects. Her portfolio includes: Appraisers Building Adaptive Reuse (Baltimore City), 706 Giddings Avenue Class A Office Renovation (Annapolis), Howard County New Cultural Center (Columbia), National Aquarium On-Call Facilities Projects (Baltimore), and the National Aquarium Waterfront Campus Plan (Baltimore).

 

Stephanie’s ability to form meaningful connections with clients and colleagues distinguishes her as a unique asset to her firm as well as the engineering discipline. In January 2019, she was recognized by McLaren as a leader in advocating for lasting client relationships and presented the Client Hero Award.

 

An active member of the Maryland AEC community, Stephanie frequently attends and volunteers at industry events. She is an ASCE Maryland Chapter member, serving on the Hospitality Committee, and a member of the ASCE Structural Engineering Institute. Also a member of Urban Land Institute Baltimore, she joined the Young Leaders Group and served on the Content Committee, where she planned events, secured speakers, and assisted with day-of coordination.

 

In addition to her professional achievements, Stephanie regularly seeks opportunities to inspire and mentor students toward careers in engineering. She volunteers at local career-readiness events, including the Maryland Quality Initiative Engineering Career Day and Junior Achievement of Maryland “Inspire” event, introducing Baltimore area middle and high school students to different branches of civil engineering. After earning a Master of Engineering in Structural Engineering from Cornell University in 2012, she remains active as an Alumni Representative, interviewing prospective engineering students for enrollment into the program.
