Robert Miller, P.E.

2018 Young Engineer of the Year

In his volunteer position as SEI-MD’s website and social media coordinator, Rob has been a reliable member who acts promptly to post all of the events, tweets, and Linked In messages from SEI-MD. He sends email blasts and monitors the online registrations and emails. With a good-natured disposition and attention to detail, he keeps our members informed and engaged. Rob humbly underestimates the value of his services. Because he is able to commit so much time to these endeavors, the board is able to focus on activities and planning.

Rob is a 2009 graduate from The Pennsylvania State University who enjoys his free-time playing guitar and piano. He and his wife welcomed their son, Benjamin Robert, in 2017. Rob currently works as a structural engineer for Morabito Consultants, Inc. in Sparks, MD. In his four and a half years with Morabito, he has had the opportunity to work on and manage projects in Maryland, Florida, and New Jersey, ranging from industrial buildings and warehouses, concrete restoration, and residential high-rises. His favorite project thus far is the ACI award-winning emergency remediation of the Dolphin Tower condominium, a 15-story concrete frame with failing transfer slab.

Rob’s past employer at EBA Engineering says on his LinkedIn page, “I worked with Robert for 3-years as his direct supervisor, and am very impressed with his consistent dedication and inquisitive nature. Robert strives to thoroughly understand the deep underlying principles of structural engineering and provides carefully crafted work. Additionally, he is very friendly and well-spoken when working with others. He is a keeper!” While working for EBA from 2010-2013, Rob focused on remediation of building and bridge structures, and conducted bridge analysis studies and inspections for overweight vehicles. Rob also worked as a staff engineer for Engineering and Technical Consultants in Columbia, MD, specializing in façade and building envelope engineering, and as a structural intern for precast concrete designer and manufacturer, Dutchland, Inc.

In addition to his professional work and volunteer work with SEI-MD, Rob has donated his time to the not-for profit Neighborhood Design Center (NDC) of Baltimore. He performed a structural building assessment for the Saint Frances School in Baltimore.

Rob was recognized by SEI National for his contributions to our Maryland Chapter, as a recipient of the 2014 SEI Structures Congress Young Engineer Award. Through his scholarship, Rob received complimentary registration to the Structures Congress in Boston, MA. ASCE-MD is proud to support Rob, for we appreciate his contributions to our field, our community, and our members.
