Duties & Responsibilities
RK&K is hiring a Project Manager with an active P.E. and experience designing and leading Roadway or Transit related Projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic.
RK&K is looking for an experience leader in the Transit market or experienced Roadway leader looking to expand their skillset into the Transit market. As a Leader in our Rail/Transit Department you will work closely with our current team to manage current and prospective projects, expand our practice and establish RK&K as a leader in the Rail/Transit market throughout MD, DC and Virginia. In this Doer/Seller role, you will be responsible for managing existing clients, cultivating new client relationships, leading project teams composed of technical staff from throughout the firm, and delivering project solutions in your technical discipline.
Essential Functions
Provide expert level engineering expertise within the Transit discipline (or willingness to build off roadway design experience to learn transit design) on projects ranging from conceptual and feasibility studies, to detailed designs, and preparation of construction specifications and contract documents.
Negotiate, manage, and execute a variety of Transit Engineering and Design projects including development and adherence to scopes of work, schedules, and budgets
Be fully engaged in solving complex problems related to transportation and infrastructure related to rail and transit programs
Represent RK&K in front of existing and potential clients in MD, DC, Virginia, or North Carolina on all aspects of Transit Engineering and Design related projects
Routinely interact with clients and teaming partners to strategically create, pursue, and win project opportunities
Hire and mentor staff by training employees, establishing personal growth opportunities and conducting performance evaluations
Provide quality control on projects within your specific technical discipline
Job Requirements
Required (Must Have) Education, Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related field
Professional Engineer (P.E.) License in the State of Virginia, Maryland or Washington D.C.
(10) Ten + years of increasingly responsible project experience in the study, design, and construction administration and inspection of rail and transit designs, construction and related infrastructure
Five (5)+ recent years of experience with progressive responsibilities in business development in the Public, Federal and Local market segments – recent portfolios supporting MDOT SHA, DDOT, VDOT, or local County DOTs
Capacity to articulate ideas and concepts both visually and contextually, including strong technical and proposal writing skills
Ability to think creatively, resolve abstract problems, motivate others, work collaboratively, and be self-directed

Job Preferences
Preferred Education, Skills and Experience:
Transit experience
Master’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Business Administration or similar
Project Management (PMP) certification
Engagement in professional engineering societies, including routine attendance at local meetings with high levels of client participation
Expertise using engineering applications such as MicroStation, ProjectWise, OpenRoads, AutoCAD and others.
