Duties & Responsibilities

CityScape Engineering is seeking a Design Engineer (minimum 2-5 years experience) to support our environmental restoration and community redevelopment projects in and around Baltimore City, Maryland. The Design Engineer will support the development of stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and site design plans. Candidates will be expected to work on multiple projects concurrently and meet project deadlines. Applicants should have a passion for promoting innovative and equitable urban design solutions for community greening and revitalization projects. Candidates are expected to travel to and work from our office in Baltimore City, Maryland.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Design of Environmental Site Design (ESD), environmental restoration, and other green infrastructure and stormwater management projects per MDE, Baltimore City, or other local Maryland jurisdictional standards

• Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of storm flows

• Prepare site grading, drainage, and erosion & sediment control plans to support restoration re-development projects, and public park projects

• Prepare project deliverables and complete design tasks in accordance with the scope, schedule, and budget defined by the Project Manager

• Prepare drawings and construction documents using primarily AutoCAD and occasionally MicroStation software. Work will involve the preparation of profiles, plan sheets, details, and specifications associated with civil engineering design

• Prepare calculations and technical reports for stormwater, stormdrain, and erosion & sediment control designs

• Support Project Managers with the regulatory stormwater and erosion and sediment control plan review and permitting process

• Estimate the quantities and cost of construction projects

• Support Project Managers to perform construction verification of project installations

• Interact with and provide timely updates to co-workers, clients, subconsultants, regulatory reviewers, and project stakeholders to coordinate project needs

• Conduct occasional field work with other Team Members in and around Baltimore City to perform site evaluations to take field measurements

• Attend community meetings (virtual or in-person depending on Covid-19 restrictions) and engage with diverse groups of City residents for project design development. Occasional evening or weekend meetings may be required, with compensation

• Demonstrate a passion for working in diverse communities on environmentally sensitive, community-driven restoration projects

Job Requirements

• BS or MS in civil engineering or related engineering field (i.e. biological, agricultural)

• Minimum 2-5 years of design experience in the Engineering field

• Knowledge of stormwater/hydrology/hydrologic design principles

• Knowledge of stormwater practice design, drainage area delineation, and practice sizing

• Ability to perform site grading using existing topography and contour lines

• Ability to complete and analyze hydrologic and hydraulic models (TR-55, TR-20, HEC-RAS and/or similar)

• Experience using AutoCAD (Civil 3D preferred) and/or Microstation design software

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

• Candidates should be adept in problem-solving, have strong computer and mathematical skills, be well organized, display effective communication skills, and have the ability to work both independently and within a team environment

Job Preferences

• Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer

• Knowledge of Baltimore City, County, or MDE plan review and permitting process

• Interest and ability to continuing developing technical skills and gain early exposure to project management
