Project Description

 The Aaron Run Road Culvert Replacement project in Garrett County was a critical emergency response effort that restored a vital connection for the community following severe flooding in 2025. 

Heavy rainfall caused the failure of the existing culvert and partial collapse of the roadway, prompting the County to act quickly to restore access for emergency services and the traveling public.

Rather than replacing the culvert in kind, the project team implemented a more resilient long-term solution—a 55-foot single-span bridge that significantly improved hydraulic capacity and reduced the risk of future overtopping.

Facing an aggressive six-month timeline, the team demonstrated exceptional ingenuity by repurposing precast beams and abutments from the County’s existing inventory, allowing both design and construction to proceed rapidly and efficiently.

Innovative use of geosynthetic reinforced soil for the foundation system further streamlined construction while maintaining performance and durability.

Through collaboration, creativity, and a focus on practical solutions, the project restored a critical roadway in just a matter of months, strengthening resilience for the community it serves.
